A forgotten remedy, rediscovered
For centuries the hop was valued for more than brewing. As beer took over, its older uses were all but forgotten. We're bringing the hop home to Kent.

Rooted in Kent
Kent has been the heart of English hop growing for five centuries, and it’s where Hopothecary began. During lockdown, Nichola and Jo started exploring the plant growing in the fields around them. Nichola brought her skincare expertise and training in naturopathic medicine; Jo brought years of blending natural formulations. Together they discovered just how much the humble hop could do.

Meet XANTHOLEX™
Xanthohumol is a rare natural compound, a type of flavonoid, found only in hops. In the plant it exists in tiny amounts, so we use advanced botanical methods to concentrate it into XANTHOLEX™, a high-purity form of 80–90% xanthohumol.

Rooted in Kent
Nichola Joss and Jo Asquith both live in Kent, the historical heart of UK hop farming, and have long shared a passion for natural remedies. Nichola is a celebrated facialist trained in naturopathic medicine. Jo is a fashion and lifestyle PR with a background in brand building, who has been blending her own formulations for years.
During lockdown they began to explore the hop, the plant growing all around them. The deeper they looked, the more potential they found, and that led to a range of hop-infused formulations built around one rare compound.
Five centuries of hops
Most Kentish hop pickers once came down from London every September. At the industry's peak, more than 80,000 people made the journey.

What is XANTHOLEX™?
XANTHOLEX™ is our high-purity form of xanthohumol (80–90%), a rare natural compound found only in hops. It is the key ingredient in every hopsdrops and rosehop product. Learn more about the science.
What is the difference between Day and Night?
Both are made with XANTHOLEX™. Day is designed for your morning routine and Night for your evening routine. Many people take both as the Day & Night Duo, which costs £6.99 less than buying them separately. Read more.
How do I take hopsdrops?
Follow the directions printed on the pack, and do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Day is taken in the morning and Night in the evening.
Can I use rosehop with hopsdrops?
Yes. Divine Face Oil pairs naturally with hopsdrops Day in the morning, and Sacred Balm with hopsdrops Night in the evening. Find your ritual to see a suggested routine.
Can I take hopsdrops if I'm pregnant or on medication?
Please speak to your doctor before taking any food supplement if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking medication or under medical supervision.
How much is delivery and how long does it take?

Can I return my order?
Yes, within 14 days of delivery for unopened products. For hygiene reasons we can't accept returns of opened supplements or skincare unless they are faulty. See delivery and returns.

Affiliate terms

These terms apply to members of the Hopothecary Circle affiliate programme, run by Sisters Garden Limited, trading as Hopothecary ("we", "us"). By joining you agree to them.
1. Joining
- You must be 18 or over and live in the UK.
- We review every application and may accept or decline at our discretion.
- Membership is personal to you and can't be transferred.
2. Your code and commission
- We give you a unique discount code. Your audience gets % off when they use it.
- You earn % commission on the value of each qualifying order placed with your code, excluding VAT, delivery charges and any refunded amounts.
- An order qualifies once it has been paid for and is no longer refundable, normally 30 days after delivery.
- Orders you place for yourself, and orders later cancelled or refunded, don't earn commission.
3. Payment
- We pay commission monthly, in arrears, once your balance reaches £. Balances below that roll over to the next month.
- We pay by bank transfer or PayPal, whichever you prefer. You are responsible for any tax due on your earnings.
4. Labelling your content
- Any content that mentions Hopothecary and includes your code or link is advertising. Label it clearly with "Ad" at the start, in line with ASA and CAP guidance. Terms like "#sp", "#spon", "gifted" or "#affiliate" on their own are not enough.
- If we send you products for free, say so as well.
5. What you can and can't say
- hopsdrops are food supplements. Don't claim, or suggest, that they prevent, treat or cure any disease or medical condition, and don't make other health claims unless we have given you the exact wording in writing.
- For rosehop skincare, describe how products look and feel on the skin. Don't make medical claims.
- Only use approved product facts from our content kit. Don't share customer health stories as evidence of results.
- Don't make misleading, offensive or disparaging content, and don't target anyone under 18.
6. Where you can promote
- Your own social channels, website, newsletter and in person.
- Not allowed: bidding on "Hopothecary", "hopsdrops", "rosehop" or similar terms in paid search, voucher or discount-code websites, spam, or buying followers or engagement.
7. Our brand
- You may use our name, logo and content-kit images only to promote Hopothecary under these terms. Don't edit our logo or create accounts that look like ours.
8. Ending membership
- Either of us can end your membership at any time by email. We may end it immediately if you break these terms, and we may withhold commission on orders that break them.
- We'll pay any qualifying commission earned before the end date.
9. Changes
- We may update these terms or commission rates. We'll give you at least 14 days' notice of any change by email.

Delivery and returns

Delivery
- We deliver to UK addresses.
- Delivery options, prices and estimated times are shown at checkout before you pay.
- Orders are usually dispatched within 2 working days.
Changing your mind
- You can cancel your order for any reason within 14 days of receiving it. Tell us within that time using our contact form, then return the products within a further 14 days.
- Because our products are sealed for health and hygiene reasons, you can't return them for a change of mind once the seal has been broken.
- Unless the item is faulty, you pay the cost of returning it. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery, within 14 days of receiving the return.
Faulty or damaged items
- If something arrives damaged, faulty or not as described, contact us within 30 days of delivery and we'll refund or replace it. This doesn't affect your legal rights.

Please email us at hello@hopothecary.co.uk before sending anything back, and we'll reply with our returns address and instructions.

Your order
- Our acceptance of your order takes place when we email you to confirm it has been dispatched. If we can't accept your order, we'll tell you and won't charge you.
- Prices include VAT where applicable. Delivery charges are shown at checkout.
- We take care to show products and prices accurately. If we find an error in the price of something you've ordered, we'll contact you before dispatching it.
Our products
- hopsdrops are food supplements. Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the recommended daily dose, and read the pack before use.
- rosehop products are cosmetics for external use only. Patch test before first use.
Cancellations and returns
See delivery and returns. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Our liability
We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care. We don't exclude liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts of your home nation.

What we collect and why
- Orders: your name, delivery address, email and order details, to fulfil your order and meet our legal obligations. Payments are processed by our checkout provider Shopify; we don't see or store your full card details.
- Messages: the details you send through our contact form, to reply to you.
- Newsletter: your email address, to send you our newsletter with your consent. Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.
- Affiliate applications: the details you give us, to assess your application and run the programme.
Who we share it with
Only with the service providers who help us run the shop, such as our e-commerce and checkout provider, website host, email provider and delivery couriers, and only as needed. These include Shopify (checkout and payments) and Netlify (website hosting). We never sell your information.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for 6 years for tax and accounting purposes. Other information is kept only as long as we need it for the purpose above.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, object to how we use it, or withdraw consent at any time. Contact us at hello@hopothecary.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
